Northam trained Mcdrumin to be tested

Northam trained speedster Mcdrumin will face his biggest test to date on Saturday at Belmont when he steps out in the 1000 metre Hurricane Sky Handicap for 0-86 rated horses. With a record of five wins from ten starts, Mcdrumin has handled most challenges presented to him. On Saturday, however, he meets the very smart half brother to champion sprinter Miss Andretti, Danny Beau along with the well-performed pair Centrum and Given Vision. Trained by the astute Garth Jackson at Northam Race Club President Tony Marwicks property, Mcdrumin dispensed with a speedy midweek field over 1000 metres on June 18. On that occasion apprentice Chloe Chatfield tracked the leader Campo Di Grano and raced away with the race after putting paid to him on the bend. After the race Chatfield described Mcdrumin as one of the fastest and strongest horses that she had ridden in her relatively short career. On Saturday she should get the opportunity to sit again from barrier three with the light weight of 52 kilograms, Chatfields minimum riding weight. Danny Beau, Centrum, Bull Durham and Alchemic are all blessed with pace to burn which should give Mcdrumin the opportunity to slot in to a prominent position. Danny Beau has not raced since March 1 when he capped off a sequence of four straight Ascot wins. He was beaten first up in that campaign when fifth to Zoomtime at Bunbury last December when he over raced and refused to settle. His racing gear was completely revamped after that event and he then embarked on his winning streak. Dardanup owner Keith Beauglehole said on Thursday that Danny Beau was working very well in the lead up to his return to racing. We dont know how he will go if it is wet, he added and said that Centrum looked to be the hardest to beat. Another runner for the Jackson stable at Belmont is the three-year-old filly Dantes Princess and she meets the outstanding Gelorup trained Dark Target in the 1000 metre Westspeed Three-Year-Old Handicap. Dantes Princess, a close relation to the multiple group and listed winner Wabasso, was a nose runner-up to Western Standard at Northam on June 19 at her second career start. She has drawn well in the coveted number one position for form apprentice Duncan Miller on Saturday and can finish in the money but on weights and measures Dark Target looks almost unbeatable.
