The $50,000 Gannon’s Ladies Day Cup will headline Northam’s programme on Saturday afternoon with Undercover Lizzy looming as the horse to beat on the strength of her last-start performance. Prepared by Adam Durrant, the Bletchley Park mare ran a gallant second to Bontiara who is shaping as one of the brightest prospects running around and has yet to suffer a loss in four career outings. Undercover Lizzy was settled in fourth position by jockey Peter Knuckey who jumped well from barrier four to track Movie World who was leading from Bontiara and Scenic Fair. On straightening Bontiara kicked clear and had the race in her keeping but to Undercover Lizzy’s credit she stuck to her task and fought the race out to finish a half-length second. It followed her narrow win over Cougar Town at the Belmont Park mid weeks and a third placing to Yamunotri when she made up many lengths over the final stages on August 10. Stable mate Like Wildfire should be improved on her return ninth to Lee Rani a fortnight back and from barrier nine and with William Pike aboard she will attract solid support. Melody Lady has found her best form this preparation and must enter serious thought after consecutive minor placings at her previous two outings. It included a runner-up finish to Rubitawny who is a stable mate of Bontiara and another highly-rated galloper from the Rob Harvey Jnr team. Melody Lady, trained by Ben Pearce, will be ridden by Chloe Chatfield who can lob into a prominent spot from barrier three. If you followed Havana City in Kalgoorlie forget she even went around and stick solid with the Hec McLaren-trained mare. She got bailed up on the inside and had absolutely no where to travel when 11th of 14 to Out Of The Sky. Go on her win two starts back at Northam when she finished powerfully to defeat Milton’s Gift over 1400m. Terminado rarely runs a bad race and resumed at Belmont on September 10 with a solid third behind Senhor Da Gama when she worked across from a wide draw to be sitting on the speed. She will again have to do it the tradesman way after copping barrier 12 but will strip fitter for the run and is worthy of throwing into your novelties. In the opening event of the nine race programme at 12:05pm, look for impressive trial performer Spanish Madam to open up her winning account in the Fashion Fun Fillies & Football Maiden (1000m). Deejar has the fitness edge and will get a gun run from barrier one for in-form rider Shaun O’Donnell. Pure Adrenalin gets his chance to breakthrough in the 96FM Perth’s Best Music Maiden (1100m). The Neville Parnham-trained son of Canny Lad has been placed twice from three career starts including a two length third to Lord Balthazar on September 21. Commanding, True Gold and Bell’s Honour also have solid claims. Rock Bar improved from seventh on the corner but could not hold out Vacillare a fortnight ago at his third run back this preparation. Along with Classic Knowledge and Exquisite Fashion the trio look capable of fighting out the Retravision Northam Maiden (1400m). Metro Master broke through to record an overdue maiden win two starts ago before racing wide throughout and finishing unplaced at last Sunday’s Northam meeting. The David Harrison-trained entire won’t have any excuses in the Avon Valley Gazette Handicap (1200m) after drawing barrier one. Prince Kodiak made up a ton of ground last-start and will have admirers in the Northam Toyota Handicap (1300m) along with Crash Hot who scored a terrific win over 1200m at Kalgoorlie. The Jacobs Creek Handicap (1600m) is an open affair with a host of chances including Friar’s Touch, Amelia Storm, Dream Theatre and Central Park who dashed home from the back of the field when fifth and 2 ¼ lengths from Need Luck over 1300m last weekend. And in the last, the www.gannons.com.au Handicap (1100m), look for Brad Graham’s Master Force to improve on his first-up second to Outlier in Kalgoorlie. War Gun is chasing back-to-back wins and Rio Ruby for Ross and Clint Price returns after a four month absence.
