Cara Carabini Attempting Successive Wins
Posted on 8/09/2010 | Posted by Julio Santarelli | Back to News Archive
Secret Harbour trainer Ben Pearce will be out to make it back-to-back wins with former eastern states galloper Cara Carabini at Northam this afternoon. The Xaar six-year-old produced an outstanding performance on debut two weeks back and if he can reproduce a similar effort he is sure to make his presence felt and be a major danger in the race. The most impressive aspect of his win was the manner in which he was able to make a sustained run from the back of the field at the 800 metre mark before dashing clear in the home straight and then running away from his rivals untouched. It was the perfect start to a new career in a new state and he looks a handy stayer in the making for the Pearce stable. Sydney Businessman failed to live up to the hype of several promising trial efforts when fourth on debut to The Duxford Wing last week. But when analysing the race and stewards report there were excuses for his effort and he gets the opportunity of atoning in the XXXX Gold Maiden (1000m). He commenced awkwardly, over-raced in the early stages and wanted to lay inwards in the home straight. If he can put it together this afternoon he’ll be hard to beat and back in favour with punters who took the short odds last week. Gunner Burns returns from a long layoff and will race first up for new trainer John Bow in the Jacobs Creek Maiden (1600m). The Key Business gelding hasn’t been seen since a third placing to Once A Week at Pinjarra last November when under the stewardship of Louise Newman. He goes into today’s race on the back of two recent trials and could surprise as an each way chance. Mr Jomar is getting desperately close to a win and will thereabouts again and Encosta Bravo was running home strongly from the back of the field over 1400 metres two weeks back and is likely to be doing so again. If Klasy Spy can put in the same effort as he did two starts back when second to the exciting Rose he comes into serious play in the Gannons Maiden (1000m). Dante’s Angel will get a charmed run from barrier one and should derive great benefit from her first run in almost 12 months and Pribyl for Jim Taylor has been impressing in the trials. Whizaway did exactly that last week when winning by a comfortable margin and looks set to go back-to-back in the Radio West Handicap (1300) with Incoherent to provide the stiff challenge. Army Miss can continue the good form of the Brent Larsson stable and maintain her consistent record in the www.visitnorthamwa.com.au Handicap (1100m) ahead of Lomomdside Lass who will appreciate the class drop. The Sleeping Giant was impeded for clear running over the concluding stages when third to Dickens last-start and expect improvement in the www.northamraceclubmaiden (1400m). And General Rules should appreciate the step up in journey in the Spring Racing In The Avon Maiden (1400m).
