Northam Preview September 2
Posted on 1/09/2010 | Posted by Julio Santarelli | Back to News Archive

The Norm Pascoe-trained Friar’s Idol has the opportunity of getting punters off to a good start at Northam this afternoon with victory in the first event: the Lycraties Maiden (1000m).

The Blackfriars filly looks to have some ability with successive fifth placings in two career starts including a last-start effort at Belmont Park a month ago to the talented All Friared Up.

She was off the track the entire trip but still ran home solidly and was less than three-lengths from the winner in an encouraging display.

With the benefit of a short freshen-up, barrier two and with the blinkers going on, all looks in readiness for Friar’s Idol to land her maiden win.

McAre for the Darryn Pateman stable was impressive on debut last week when half-a-length away from Gronzy and is good enough to go one better in the DK Supplies Maiden (1100m).

If Milly The Filly can race to her trial form her record would be a lot better than what it currently reads, one placing from five starts.

She led them up last start and compounded to finish a long way from Sunny City and the drop back to 1000 metres could be the key.

Yowie’s Dream disappointed when she failed to make up any ground in last week’s Free At Last Maiden (1000m).

It was a far cry from her previous run when running home powerfully from 13th at the turn to be placed third to Acinabell.

If she repeats that run she could worth another chance in the Shari Alit Maiden (1300m).

Wizaway should be nearing peak fitness after three starts back and is drawn to get the run of the race from barrier three in the Bailey Kinninmont Maiden (1300m).

The Paul Jordan-trained four-year-old has improved with each run and worked stylishly to the line a fortnight ago when placed second behind Don’trocktheboat.

Karan and Totteridge Green will be the dangers.

Former eastern states galloper Mr Jomar travels to Northam in search of his first win in the Corey Kinnininmont Maiden (1600m) and his form since arriving in the West has been solid and competitive enough.

A first-up third was followed by an unplaced run behind Reimbursement before an eighth placing to the in-form Ocean Cracker when beaten by just three lengths.

Wild Enforcer and Celtic Rock fought out a close contest two starts back and look set to fight out the finish again in the Farewell Damien Kinnininmont Handicap (1600m).

Little separated them on that occasion with Wild Enforcer getting the result by one-and-a-half-lengths but I’m leaning ever so slightly to Celtic Rock with the small weight turnaround.

Don’t discount Look for Myscenic Myheights who could be running over the top of them.

Sunny City completed a form turnaround with a withering finish last week and is capable of going back-to-back in the DK Singapore Bound Handicap (1400m) and look for improvement with Revy in the Barrier Crew Handicap (1000m).

Forget his last run and go on his two previous efforts when fourth to The Entourage at Belmont Park and an easy winner over Triple Enn at Northam on June 24.

Army Miss and Stress Related the dangers.
