Impressive Trial Winners On Debut At Northam
Posted on 25/08/2010 | Posted by Julio Santarelli | Back to News Archive
There are a number of impressive trial performers who will be making their debuts at Northam this afternoon that punters should keep a close watch on. One of those will be former New South Wales galloper Mon Biscuit who demolished the opposition by over seven lengths at a Lark Hill barrier trial last week and is sure to have his admirers in the My Thornbird Maiden (1400m). The son of Giant’s Causeway, who has collected three minor placings from five career starts at Hawkesbury, Newcastle and Wyong in distances ranging from 1400 to 2100 metres, appears to be a talented stayer in the making and his maiden Western Australian performance will be eagerly anticipated. The Bruce Watkins-trained Sydney Businessman was another equally impressive trial performer who won comfortably by almost six lengths. The four-year-old missed the start badly but was quickly able to reel in the field before peeling out wide approaching the bend and running home in blistering fashion. Watkins and connections have been very patient with the Dash For Cash gelding who first trialled 12-months ago but their faith and perseverance could be rewarded with victory in the Free At Last Maiden (1000m). The dangers will come from Catch Dat Kat and Handel’s Messiah who resumes from a short let-up for in-form trainer Sharon Taylor. Quest For Mak was a stylish winner over Beaurich a fortnight ago and is more than capable of making it back-to-back wins in the Capuchin Handicap (1600m). Thunder Mak and Orient Star are also in with solid claims. Miss Medallion has been running home well in her races and the 2200 metres of the Zero Engagement Maiden should be to her liking. Rule The North for Grant Williams is inching closer to a win and should be primed to run a strong race and Scenic Spree will be in the mix as well. Wonder Weed just got touched on the line last week but should bounce back to score his first win this preparation in the Rosskaen Handicap (1100m). It’s an open race with many chances including Hang Em High, Honour Of Denmark, Kilkenny Jac and Frenchman. Panic for Peter Giadresco has improved in each of his two runs back and can breakthrough in the Jinx King Handicap (1300m). He ran on solidly to be placed third to Curramulka a fortnight back and has solid claims to record his second career win. Alevanta will get the run of the race from barrier one and can quite easily land her maiden WA
