Conditions To Suit Verissimo
Posted on 11/08/2010 | Posted by Julio Santarelli | Back to News Archive
A drop back to the mile journey looks a perfect platform for the Michael Lane-trained Verissimo to return to the winner’s list at Northam this afternoon. The son of Rancho Ruler has spent the majority of his current campaign racing competitively against a good crop of stayers including the Mark Reed-trained Offer Me Jewels and Adam Durrant’s Once A Week but looks ideally suited to the conditions of the Kahlua Handicap (1600m). The Alan Matthews-trained Danamoss will provide the challenge and impressed when returning to the winner’s list last-start and his record at the track this season has been solid. Minnie May and the Ross Price-trained Dignity Haze cannot be left out of calculations. Doctor Dash has been in wonderful form with a win and three placings from his past four starts and he should be able to negotiate a tricky barrier draw in the Malibu Handicap (1100m). It may pay to disregard Rakutan’s last run at Belmont Park three weeks back when more than ten lengths from Pure Rust and go on his prior form that included a win over School Rumble who has since franked that form and a third placing to Kilkenny Jac. War Gun is progressively getting closer to a win and should breakthrough in the Chivas Regal Maiden (1400m). If you were on the odds-on favourite last start it will pay to follow. Cup Day Diva put in a very good effort when sixth on debut behind a smart type in Lena’s Fury and is capable of playing a prominent role. Octagene also put in a nice effort behind Lena’s Fury and if he can overcome a wide barrier draw he will play a strong hand in the Absolut Handicap (1300m). He fought on doggedly over the concluding stages and the extra 100m should be to his benefit. He was a good winner at the track three starts back and looks a nice type for the Brett Pope stable. Chris Gangemi will be hoping The Bing can bring back some bling when contesting the Perrier Jouet Maiden (1400m). The Elvstroem gelding disappointed on debut at Belmont Park when near last but his trial form leading in was impressive with three successive victories. The Gangemi team are in form and it would be wise to give the three-year-old another look. Quest For Mak was running home strongly from the tail of the field to fall a-length-and-a-half from Western Jewell a fortnight ago and looks capable of going one better in the Montana Maiden (1600m). The GH Mumm Maiden (1100m) looks an open affair with Easi Cummins, Hang On Honey and Essential Bear looking winning chances. Hang On Honey should be improved by her first up fourth and King Of The Mews goes into the Jacob’s Creek maiden on the back of an impressive trial win.
