Northam racetrack under watch for thursday's race meeting
Posted on 13/07/2010 | Back to News Archive
An inspection of the Northam racetrack was conducted by Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) Steward David Hensler, RWWA Curator Assistance Program Manager Geoff Murphy and Club officials today after the Club raised concerns with RWWA about a poor draining area following the recent rain.
The Club has received 64.5mm of rain since Friday 9th July and had noticed an area at approximately the 400m mark was draining poorly causing concern about the ability to race over the area.
It was decided to ensure the best possible racing surface for the race meeting on Thursday 15th July that the Club would alter the rail position to 10m. This has caused some adjustment to race fields already released with RWWA racing department contacting those trainers who have been inconvenienced.
The Club is continuing to monitor the progress of the drainage in the area and is reporting back to RWWA with this.
RWWA Stewards will make a decision on the conduct of Thursday’s programmed race meeting following two horse’s galloping over the area early Thursday morning.
