Northam Preview July 15

The Bruce Watkins-trained Gallipoli Prince displayed fighting qualities at his maiden start a fortnight ago and if he can reproduce a similar effort in the Roger Smith Memorial Maiden (1400m) at Northam this afternoon he will prove hard to beat. The three-year-old son of King Cugat was settled near last approaching the home corner before unleashing a powerful finishing burst down the middle of the track to be placed fourth behind the impressive Come Party. He will again have to settle back in the field after drawing barrier 14 but does have the claim of Damian Lane and the step in journey from 1300 to 1400 metres should suit. Look for Pinzera to improve on his last outing and Dignity Haze should again be around the mark. In could also pay to watch the Watkins-Lane combination with debutant mare Rose in the Heather Coulter Memorial Maiden (1100m). The daughter of Mosayter has had three trials for two wins and a second placing and a win first up would not surprise. Triple Enn will be improved by his first up second to Revy on June 24 and the Pope stable are in form with a double at the previous Northam meeting. Bizzaca looks an outstanding chance of making it back-to-back wins in the Round Corner Table Handicap (1600m). The Mike Powell-trained four year old was most impressive last-start producing a withering finish to get over the top of Wild Enforcer and should be eating up the ground over the mile journey. The Cathy Baker-trained Wildwood put in a creditable effort when placed seventh and less than five lengths from New Image in the Listed Belmont Oaks two weeks back. She was caught wide for most of the trip but was still plugging away strongly approaching the home straight before tiring over the concluding stages. She drops back in grade and distance and is capable of scoring a deserving win in the Cafe Bugati Maiden (1600m). Wild Enforcer put in his best run this campaign with a last-start second to the fast-finishing Bizzacca and has the opportunity of going one better in the Krasy Handicap (1400m). The Ross Price-trained galloper looked a winner everywhere but the line and will have the service of in-form jockey Kyra Yuill who is coming off a treble at Kalgoorlie last weekend. The danger will be Holliwood Looks for Vaughn Sigley who ran home strongly for a powerful last-start win. The Lord Dane filly was off the track for most of the trip and wanted to lay inwards down the home stretch but still found a way to hit the line hard for a most impressive debut win.
