Moneghetti And Rosendale Win Features
Posted on 8/06/2010 | Posted by Julio Santarelli | Back to News Archive
Talented Blackfriars colt Moneghetti made an impressive return to racing with an authoritative first up win in the Northam Traders Sprint (1300m). The Lindsey Smith-trained three-year-old, who last raced when unplaced to Clueless Angel in the Group 2 WA Guineas last November, proved too strong for Devilish Intent with Melrose Prince back in third place. Jockey Alan Kennedy had Moneghetti settled towards the rear of the field where he was inclined to hang and race ungenerously but once he put his mind to the task he powered home strongly over the final 200m for an encouraging win. His has two wins and two placings from seven starts and looks another promising type for the Gallante owners and trainer Lindsey Smith. Former New South Wales galloper Devilish Intent produced a nice effort first up for new trainer Dan Morton. Track specialist Rosendale continues to race in consistent form to make it three wins in succession in the second feature of the day: the Avon Valley Contractors-Foundation Day Cup (1600m). She was given the sweetest of runs from jockey William Pike who settled her in the one out one back trail after crossing from barrier 14. As they straightened for home he dashed her clear and despite Fun Spice making her earn the victory she proved too strong over the concluding stages to maintain her impressive strike rate.
