Talented Blackfriars colt Moneghetti made an impressive return to racing with an authoritative first up win in the Northam Traders Sprint (1300m).

The Lindsey Smith-trained three-year-old, who last raced when unplaced to Clueless Angel in the Group 2 WA Guineas last November, proved too strong for Devilish Intent with Melrose Prince back in third place.

Jockey Alan Kennedy had Moneghetti settled towards the rear of the field where he was inclined to hang and race ungenerously but once he put his mind to the task he powered home strongly over the final 200m for an encouraging win.

His has two wins and two placings from seven starts and looks another promising type for the Gallante owners and trainer Lindsey Smith.

Former New South Wales galloper Devilish Intent produced a nice effort first up for new trainer Dan Morton.
