Punters have rallied to support brilliant sprinter Kid Choisir ahead of his return to racing in Sunday’s $100,000 O’Shea Realty Northam Sprint (1100m). The Frank Maynard-trained three-year-old, who is coming off an outstanding 2009 juvenile season that culminated with Listed wins in the Placid Ark Stakes and Supremacy Stakes, is the current hot favourite on Player at $2.50 and heads the market from Bunbury galloper Keytomoney who is next at $4.20. A recent trial win at Lark Hill has added to punters confidence and confirmed he’s returned to the top of his game and is ready to launch a powerful assault on the next phase of a promising career. “I couldn’t be more happier with him,” said a confident Maynard. “He’s tracking along nicely and there will be no excuses.” Sunday’s feature will provide Maynard with a clearer guide on how talented a race horse he has on his hands and what the future has install for him. All the indicators look promising but Sunday’s performance against a crack field will determine immediate and future plans. “We’ll make an assessment after the weekend but more than likely he will tackle the Bolton Sprint and Roma Cup at home before we look anywhere else,” Maynard said. “But Sunday will tell me how good he is and will be a good test. “I’m confident he is up to it and honestly believe he’ll run well. “Paul (Harvey) is also confident and said after the trial he had gone on to the next level.” Kid Choisir looks the likely leader who will dictate term in front but his Placid Ark win last year proved he was more than comfortable and capable of taking a sit on the field. With Damien Oliver aboard he sat camped off his rivals and finished powerfully on the inside to defeat Stars Aligned and Keshaar. “He doesn’t have to lead at all,” Maynard said. “If someone wants to take him on he’ll just camp off them.”
