Hurricane Sky filly Avante has scored a brilliant first-up win in the Dallimore Floating Timber Floors Maiden (1000m) at Northam this afternoon.

The Ivan Haggerty-trained and Bob and Sandra Peters-owned three-year-old couldn’t have been more impressive in scoring a decisive win over the favourite Lady Xaar and Star Of Diamonds.

Her hopes for victory looked forlorn at the start when she missed the kick badly and was settled near last, but she showed she could be a filly on the rise as she ran home strongly to record an impressive maiden victory.

She was a trial winner at Belmont Park on September 29 over the 1000 metre journey in a relatively slow time of 1:04:42 but blitzed her rivals today in 58:37 to suggest she will go through her classes quite well.
