Oaksville Has Too Many Guns

Nine-year-old Oaksville has scored an upset win in the Kids Big Day Handicap (1600m) at Northam this afternoon.
Arriving with a withering run from the rear of the field Oaksville managed to catch the favourite Skitzo close to the line with Kalgoorlie galloper Campbells Chariot back in third place.
It was the veteran’s fifth win from 77 starts and his first in almost 12 months since his victory over Merignac in the Settlers House York Handicap (1600m).
John Claite was attempting to lead all the way aboard Anything More with Campbells Chariot in second place and Skitzo back in fifth position.
Once Paul Harvey was able to find some galloping room with the runner-up he was able to squeeze his way to the front and looked to have the race in his keeping half-way down the straight.
But Campbell McCallum had other ideas on Oaksville and was rapidly closing the gap out wide on the track and had too much finishing power for the favourite.
Campbells Chariot did well to hang on for third after doing all the chasing early and although Anything More faded to be fifth he will derive benefit from his second run this campaign.
