Williams Searching For The Doctor!
Posted on 23/09/2009 | Posted by Julio Santarelli | Back to News Archive

Dr Johnson mare Wanna Play Doctor returns to the scene of the crime when she contests the Recreation & Visitor Centre Handicap (1600m) at Northam this afternoon.

The Grant Williams-trained galloper has a perfect strike rate of two wins from two starts at the track and returns after a last-start fourth to the in-form Castletown Keys at Belmont Park.

If she runs anywhere near her best and from an ideal position in barrier four she should prove extremely hard to beat.

“Although she lost her winning sequence at Belmont a fortnight ago I wasn’t disappointed by her effort,” Williams said.

“She was caught wide early and pulled but was still good enough to hit the line strongly.

“It indicated to me she was looking for further ground and that’s why she is stepping to the mile this afternoon.

“She should get a good run from barrier four and I don’t expect her to be worse than midfield.”

Wanna Play Doctor has been a handy addition to the Williams stable as he attempts to make his mark in thoroughbred training.

Her early success has certainly been an unexpected bonus.

“She has been a pleasant surprise,” Williams said.

“She is better than I initially thought.

“She just keeps on improving with each run and every time she goes to the races she keeps getting better.

“But I won’t rush her as she goes through the grades

“I haven’t looked at the calendar but a fillies and mares race over the mile in town is a consideration.

“She is definitely up to mid-week city grade.”
