Destroid Breaks Maiden Status
Posted on 20/08/2009 | Posted by Julio Santarelli | Back to News Archive
Red-hot favourite Destroid has broken his maiden status following a narrow win over stable mate Cold Command in today's Wytwool Maiden (1300m) at Northam. After four minor placings from eight starts the four-year-old gelding has finally rewarded his patient band of supporters and owners including West Coast identities John Worsfold and Trevor Nisbett with a solid victory. Trained By Lou Luciani and ridden by Jason Whiting, Destroid was settled off the pace in sixth position with Theodore and Cold Command setting the pace in front. As they approached the cutaway at the 400 metre mark Whiting made his move to the outside and by the 100 mete point had joined Cold Command in the run to the line. It was only over the concluding stages that Destroid started to exert his authority and get over the top of a gallant stable mate. Ascot Taxi was third and Alexander The Great made a stack of ground late to be placed fourth. Today's win by Destroid takes his Northam record to one win, one second and one third placing from three starts.
