Upset Win To Giho
Posted on 13/08/2009 | Posted by Julio Santarelli | Back to News Archive
Mike Santich scored his first win in almost 12 months following the upset win of Giho in today's Weekend Wake Up With Dan Handicap (1400m) at Northam. Giho, one of the outsiders in an open race, doesn't win too many races but found his right range this afternoon and bolted in to defeat Bells Away and Cervino. He was given the run of the race by Mark Forder who had the six-year-old camped just of the tear away leaders in Vain Rooney and Hecarwee. After gaining an inside run he hit the front with 250 metres remaining and recorded what in the end was a very comfortable victory. His recent form hadn't indicated a win was around the corner and in fact; his last win was just over a year ago when he scored over Goldtown in the Northam Traders Sprint when ridden by Willie White. Cervino hit the line hard for third and Ceedex battled away for fourth. Vain Rooney weakened right out of it and finished well back.
