DICKSON CHASING A NORTHAM SCHOOL WIN
Posted on 25/06/2009 | Posted by Julio Santarelli | Back to News Archive

Hana Dickson will make the trip to Northam this afternoon with just the one runner, Bletchley School, but she is confident the three-year old will give her rivals an education in the Gannon’s Presentation Trophies & Rugs Maiden (1100m).

Dickson’s confidence is based on two factors: an encouraging debut run at Northam a fortnight ago when placed second to Melody Miss and the post-race comments from champion jockey William Pike.

“Willie was extremely annoyed and thought she had cost herself the race,” Dickson said.

“She tended to roll around and lose concentration in the straight and as a result she lost momentum and the race according to Willie.

“I put it down to inexperience and the fact she was racing first-up.

“She will derive an enormous benefit from the run and is the one to beat.”

The dangers to Bletchley School will be Step And Go, Pleasure State and Hippocrates.

Pleasure State, a Falvelon filly from Victoria, will be making her first appearance in Western Australia for trainer Grant Williams and with two recent trial wins at Lark Hill looks a threat.

The Brett Pope-trained Hippocrates was involved in a blanket finish with Bletchley School last start and cannot be discounted while Step and Go is a speed machine who is dropping back to the 1100 metre journey.

“I rate Hippocrates as the danger,” Dickson said.

“He fought all the way to the line and was involved in a photo-finish with Bletchley School.

“A similar run and he will be our hardest challenger.”

Dickson has made every post a winner since leaving the Goldfields earlier this year and re-establishing a base at Lark Hill.

She currently has a team of five horses in work and is looking forward to revealing several more promising prospects.

“I have a Show A Heart gelding in Maximus Heart who won a trial at Belmont Park last week,” Dickson said.

“I also have acquired Diamond Highway who has won almost $200,000 in prize money and is a valuable addition to my stable.
