The York trained Oaksville
The York trained Oaksville

By Geoff Whittle

There is no shortage of racing again at Northam on Thursday with another nine-event card commencing at 11.45 am.

On a day sponsored by Gannons, the maidens have been well catered for again with the first six events for that class of runner.

Of the more seasoned gallopers later in the day, the evergreen Oaksville who is always turned out a treat by York trainer Keri D’Orsogna, could represent each-way value in race seven. Regular rider Chloe Chatfield was aboard when he surged late to grab a close (3/4 length) second to Kooyong Road last week and he may go one better from last start easy 1300 metre winner Narva and Not So Secret.

In the maidens, Paul Harvey holds a strong hand with his rides on Bletchley School for trainer Hana Dickson in race two and Lindsey Smith’s Wocket In A Pocket in the sixth.

Wocket In A Pocket is well and truly overdue but she put in another “get on me next start” run when fourth to Melody Miss at the track on June 11th.

With ordinary luck she should break through.

Accomplished rider Mark Miller is returning to form after a double at Kalgoorlie on Sunday and he can score again on Zerico for trainer Keith Mifflin in an open race one from trial winners Lucky Eagle and Rocky Norse.

Lookatme Lookatme was blocked for a run last start, finishing sixth behind Certain Gold two weeks ago after winning on the track. She can bounce back at each-way odds and win from Lucky Trainer, Analogy and Put Option (EM1) should he gain a run.

Grey mare Argent Bijou resumes in the final event, the Ladies Day at Northam 20th September Handicap for trainer Adam Durrant and stable rider Alan Kennedy. She should get a nice sit on the speedsters Timely Queen and Soviet Prince.

Argent Bijou, who has been placed on the track, will jump from barrier one but will not find Justin Parsons’ Soviet Prince a push-over. He raced deep last start at Belmont after winning at Northam.
