Historic items donated to Northam Race Club

By Geoff Whittle: www.grassrootsracingwa.com The Northam Race Club received a very special donation earlier this year when the family of 1969 Northam Cup winner Fait Accompli's owners, Mr & Mrs H. J. Williams, presented the winning trophy, racebook of the day and other memorabilia to the club. The cup (pictured), racebook of the day and other items pertaining to the big event of 1969 remain in impeccable condition and are a wonderful addition to Northam Race Club's historic archives. Fait Accompli was an outstanding stayer of his day. After winning the Northam Cup when ridden by Ken Bradley and trained by H. J. (Bert) Harrison as a four-year-old, he won the Perth Cups of 1970 and 1972. The Perth Cup of 1969 was won by the top stayer Jenark and 1973's big race saw Bart Cummings' four time Derby winner Dayana take the prize. Obviously Fait Accompli raced in an era of great stayers.
